Fashion streams originating from the institute have expanded since 1990, when Mr. Ratnadeep Lal established the institute with a strength of 40 students. The institute has since expanded its presence.

IIFT was set up by a leading fashion technologist and states that it is associated and affiliated with the International Textile and Fashion Council (IIFT), described as an apex body for the development of the garment industry with more than 80,000 members worldwide. The institute states that its faculty members are trained according to ISO regulations and norms. IIFT reports substantial growth over more than 20 years and states that it has organised more than 250 fashion shows in the last 13 years. Mr. Ratnadeep Lal, Chairman of IIFT, has been associated with training in fashion, textile, garment business administration and merchandising. The institute states that it has trained more than 80,000 professionals. Mr. Ratnadeep Lal is described by the institute as a graduate of the London College of Fashion, Oxford Street, London.

Mrs. Neelam Batra (Director) is associated with the International Institute of Fashion Technology in Roorkee in the fields of fashion, textile, garment design, Fine Art, CAD and merchandising.

IIFT Roorkee was established in 2018 and has been imparting fashion education since then.

She has experience in Fashion, Textile, Fine Arts, Interior Designing, CAD and Merchandising.

She has experience in teaching international craft.
